The Wakpamni Wood Crew
helps keep Oglalas warm
through the winter.

A significant portion of Oglala tribal members burn wood to stay warm through South Dakota’s harsh winter months.

The Wakpamni Wood Crew has been cutting, splitting, stacking and delivering wood for elders and those who simply cannot afford to pay a wood vendor to deliver the life-giving heat source. The Wakpamni Wood Crew is led by spiritual advisor Ricky Gray Grass; he and the committed crew members have been keeping the Oglala people’s most vulnerable warm for several winters. Support this cause and help continue the invaluable and life saving work. Donate today.

Every year winter is punishing on the Northern Plains. Elders, children, veterans, people of all walks face extreme temperatures dipping below -20º Fahrenheit. This deadly freeze is compounded by a lack of resources and infrastructure to clear rural, dirt/gravel roads – putting our most vulnerable relatives in great peril. Tribal members are running out of heat and food. The South Dakota national guard has been activated to assist the Oglala Sioux Tribe in its efforts to ensure the survival of all tribal members threatened by the dangerous conditions.

Meet the Wakpamni Wood Crew

Conditions are exceptionally harsh due to the existing economic challenges faced by a significant portion of the Pine Ridge reservation. There are a multitude of reasons why things are the way they are but that is a long story for another time.

The Wakpamni Wood Crew is asking for your assistance. Your support will not only help with equipment and resources for the Wakpamni Wood Crew in their mission, but will also help support the entire reservation through the punishing winter, this year and for years to come.

The Wakpamni Wood Crew is truly a lifesaving force on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Ricky Gray Grass and the crew have been working tirelessly to provide wood to those in need, often working in dangerous conditions and with limited resources. Your donation will help us to provide wood to those in need, and will help us to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. Any amount, large or small, is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to donate a significant amount to a 501 (c) 3 for which you will receive a tax deductible certification, this can be arranged on behalf of Ricky Gray Grass and the Wakpamni Wood Crew by emailing Ricky here.
